Once upon a time, there lived a girl named J. She loved doing her thing, because it made her happy and it was within the commandments of Allah. People loved to see her do that. They applauded her, and found inspiration in her. Time passed by and she got used to listening to her praises so much so that *her thing* wasn't about her any more. It was more about "how others will perceive it", and "what they will say", and "will they admire it" and likes of these. All these questions visited her mind often. One autumn evening, she realized, her life wasn't about her any more. She was no more than a pawn, grown out of power altogether. She had handed over the forces to those who regarded her actions. All of that because she got trapped into appreciation. That autumn evening was the inquilaab of her life to come. She realized that what matters more. And the concept of Tawheed transpired further into her heart. It was Allah's pleasure that mattered. If we run towards pleasing people, the end will a painful void.
After that, whenever she decided to do something, a question always popped into her mind, "will Allah like it?".
